GAY RIGHTS IN TEXAS.
First let me apologize for being a troll, but you guys have NO idea how important this is to me. I grew up in Lubbock, Texas which has been deemed the most conservative town in the nation. Funny thing is that Lubbock is also one of fastest growing cities with Texas Tech having the second largest campus in the nations and with PLENTY of room to grow. This year I am SHOCKED and THRILLED to know that we are having a REAL gay pride festival. Now i know it may not seem like a big deal but i would just like you guys to reblog this so that maybe someone in a small town somewhere can know even the most up-tight cities can let their grudges go so that we can celebrate who we are. Know that things always get better. please please please spread this word.
On October 8th 2011, Legalize Love will bring pride to the conservative Texas city of Lubbock. The grassroots organization will host the City’s first Pride Festival- equipped with a number of speakers, artists, performances, food and much more. Legalize Love was co-founded by LGBT activists Bianca Molina and Giselle Ramirez. When asked about what motivated them to take on such an ambitious project, Bianca remarked: “the LGBTQ community needs to come out and be proud, especially in a small bible belt city.” This they say, is an event long overdue.
The Festival will host photographers from the NOH8 Campaign, a video booth for the It Gets Better Project and of course, your writers from Born Like This. Legalize Love continues to look for vendors, performers and activists to feature at the event. If you are interested, Legalize Love can be reached at legalizelove@hotmail.com or on their event Facebook pagehere!
So join us. Lubbock’s historic Pride Festival will take place at The Motherland Amphitheater at 8704 Rhodes Cir, Lubbock, TX 79423.
